North of Trinidad and Tobago, this British Commonwealth is a
great way to see a different side of the Caribbean. They are
well known for their two striking peaks - Gros Piton and Petit
Piton. During the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, ownership of
the island went from the French to the English - who ruled it
until the island gained self-government in 1967 and total
independence in 1979. Because of it's history, you can expect to
feel the rich French and English influence on the culture.
Still, Saint Lucia does have a culture of its own as well. While
not a large island, there are quite a few things to see and do.
English is the official language, but French is spoken
frequently as well.
